China Gathering at SXSW, launched in the summer of 2016 and officially introduced in March 2017, aims to guide and assist companies from China to merge into Austin’s signature event South by Southwest. Founded in 1987, SXSW brings together organizations and individuals from more than 100 countries from around the world for networking, business-development, brainstorming, learning, discovery and fun!
Chinese entrepreneurs from various industries (including technology, investment, social media, recording production, image technology and education development) regard SXSW as a valuable opportunity to get into the public eye and enter the western market. However, the scale of SXSW has often made it difficult for Chinese companies to get a foothold into the event. Also hindering greater participation from the Far East have been language barriers, lack of event-related information printed in Mandarin, and limited means of transportation.
Hence the need for a platform like China Gathering at SXSW, which helps serve as a bridge between these two countries. China Gathering at SXSW will assist Chinese companies to better understand SXSW so that they can leverage all its various business opportunities — and enjoy all the incredible networking that March in Austin has to offer.
While we hope that Chinese companies have a basic understanding of SXSW, we are here to help you with any questions that you have related to this event. We will do our best to assist you so that your company will have as productive a visit to Austin as possible!
Born and raised in Beijing, China, Vivian was a firsthand witness to the opening up of this nation to Western business after the historic visit by President Richard Nixon in 1972. She was very fortunate to experience the changes in China brought by these reforms. Vivian was highly influenced by this more open culture and she enjoyed being part of the first generation that actively pursued innovation and Western technology.
When Vivian first set her foot into the underground circle of Chinese rock and roll, the bands that had an immediate influence on her were Tang Dynasty, Black Leopard, and Cobra. At the age of 16, she started several years of intense training to become a professional singer. Even though the dream of being a full-time singer has now drifted away, she still loves music in all its forms.
For the first five years of her career in China, Vivian dedicated herself to hotel property management. She then transitioned herself to the advertising industry, including conference organization, new products promotion, public relations, advertisement creation and design. Experienced in meeting the demands of corporate clients, she has worked extensively with high-profile companies such as China Telecom and China Unicom.
Ever since Vivian re-located to America in 2009, she has worked to develop a more productive relationship between China and the U.S. by helping to connect various companies and communities from these two nations. In 2016, Vivian launched an exciting platform called China Gathering at SXSW in order to help Chinese companies to know and join in the all the business-generating activities that make March in Austin so special.
